Thankful and Appreciative

So I’m not sure how I’m feeling about my birthday coming up. Yes the big 32. Living the ‘basketball life’ demands a certain schedule and time commitment that makes it difficult to spend time pursuing other activities and spending time with loved ones, so there are some things that I have been unable to do thus far, which I would have wanted. However, as I reflect and think about all that I have accomplished in the 32 yrs I’ve been on this earth, I am so thankful and appreciative of all that I have experienced to date. I’m so grateful to be in a position where I have the means to do many of the things that I want as well as the liberty of making decisions for myself, which can easily be taken for granted when growing up and living in countries where people have freedom of expression. It is said that 30’s is the new 20’s. Not for me though…I mean, I am still and will always be young at heart, but for me it seems that 30’s is the new 40’s or even 60’s. I say this because I have become so much wiser in the little time that I have spent thus far being a 30-something, that I sometimes feel a bit wise beyond my years. I have found that reflecting on the small details of life has brought me wisdom. By details, I don’t mean the houses, the cars, the cloths, I mean the ones that really count like quality time with loved ones, an unexpected card, giving back to the community, and giving someone a genuine compliment. So I welcome this new upcoming year, one in which I will continue to grow as an individual both on and off the court.

Cheers!

    Happy birthday…

You know that you’re the most played foreign player in the Fenerbahçe’s women basketball history. That makes you unforgettable for us. Thank you for everything.

Her zaman, her yerde, en büyük Fener!

I have known you for (almost) 29 of your 32 years, and I attest that you have gotten wiser as time has progressed. I am so proud to hear comments and see actions from you that show your appreciation for all that you have as well as all that you don’t have, and how you brainstorm ways to uplift others who i) lack basic necessities ii) just need to hear a positive comment to get through the day ii) have all and more than they need, but don’t recognize it and iv) many others who may be uncategorizable. I know that you will continue to impart your wisdom to the masses, and I trust that you will continue to remember to apply that wisdom to yourself as well.
    Happy birthday xoxo

In the 9 years that I have known you, I have always admired your ability to stay grounded. Yes, you are wise beyond your years with a great deal of passion and commitment to helping others. While everyone appreciates you and is awed by you, in your heart its never about you, its about seeing smiles, giving someone something that they may not have otherwise experienced. Peace, love, joy and contentment to you. You are my ongoing example of the family bond with a maturity that reflects respect of the opinions of your parents, no matter how old you get. Contrary to many beliefs, independence is bourne from respect of allowing others to be themselves all the time, the intelligence to know that others may know a thing or two, and the savaay to bring it all together.

Angels are around you, toast to your successes, there is more to come, you deserve it all.

    Love
    E.
